An Old Scam – REVIVED
Take note that businesses have been warned that bogus firms are sending out letters demanding organisations register under The Data Protection Act.
A recent court case found two individuals guilty of conning businesses into believing a fee of between £95 and £135 was due to be paid for data protection registration. The statutory fee is only £35.
ACAS launches Equality Training Tools
ACAS has released a set of free on-line e-learning tools on sexual orientation and gender reassignment.
In seven years time only 20% of the working population of the UK will be white able bodied male and under 45 years of age. The e-learning tool is designed to allow an organization to assess how issues arising can be identified and addressed. Read more

Beware – An increase in late filing tax penalties
The Sunday Times has reported that tax payers are set to be hit with higher penalties for late filing and unpaid taxes.
A £3.6 billion hole has appeared in the public accounts and it is expected that imposing higher penalties will go some way to offsetting this shortfall.
Anita Monteith of The Institute of Chartered Accountants, said: “The late-payment penalty is going up and we’re going to get a more harsh regime, without proper consultation. The government needs more money and one of the ways of getting it is through the penalty regime.” Read More.
Microsoft Software Piracy
Microsoft’s Office Genuine Anti-Piracy scheme is now mandatory, which means that with effect from January 2007 before downloading updates the version of Office you use will require validation.
